6th Street Debuts In NYC

For A Young Band They Have Breadth
6thstreet, pop music, los angeles, mike miller, grant cook, dance

There's a really good chance you've never heard of this band, 6th Street. But now you have. And hopefully you'll be hearing a lot form of these two guys. But in the meanwhile you should totally check out their website.  There's a lot of nice songs on there.  Ephman likes Try And Stop Love.

So it's getting close to game time at Arlen's Grocery for these guys to hit the stage. And Ephman started to notice these guys with scaffolding setting something up. It was like “OMG are they acrobats too?” Ephman said to his wife. See he doesn't know that much about this band. One of the reasons he went.

The band shouldn't really be called a band.  They're a duo that sounds like 20 people are playing.  Mike Miller plays a great synthesizer, and one of those 80's like synthesizers you wear like a guitar. And he's always like turning some knob, or on the computer, or on the keyboard. Making all these complex sounds come out. Then there's Grant Cook on guitar. This guy is classic. He totally gets into the music. Great on stage. He like dances when he's playing. Since Ephman grew up in Canada, he can't seem to think that Grant looks a bit like a WAY younger Bryan Adams (kind of like from the Cuts Like a Knife days).

So while Mike's doing his computer keyboard synthesizer thing, and Grant's grooving to the music he's already playing, all that scaffolding comes into play. They setup this screen. And these videos it looks like they produced is playing in the back ground. TOTALLY a great idea!!! Loved that they do that. They take this grungy looking stage and they make the way THEY want it look. Check out the videos there. You'll see.

Let's get to the music here. These guys can transcend a lot of different genres. Their song Angles Falling has this Bruce Hornsby feel to it. And then they went into a totally different direction with this jumpy tune named International. Which was very clubby dancy. Kind of shows you the talent these two fellows had. And the vastness of their influences.

Free discs were handed out at the show to all the people that were there. And you know Ephman got his. But you can buy their music on iTunes or something.  Addictive beats.
