The High Line Park

From Junk to Funk in 5 Years.
The High Line Park NYC

The High Line park is now open for fun.  Ephman found out abut this new park in his neighborhood a bit over 5 years ago.  At first it was like "Oh great now more people are going to come to the Meat Packing District".  That started to happen before today.  Then it was "where are the junkies going to hideout?"  Now it is all about "nice place to chill".  Hopefully it will be a chill place, and not turn into "a place to be seen".

The whole project got started off with $50million from the city.  The Friends of The High Line has done yoemans work to get this park designed and built.  They really all deserve NYC's and every visitors thanks (it's clap time).  The group is a community organization started by Robert Hammond and Joshua David.  James Corner Field Operations are the architects (NYC based), that were the lead designers.  However, a handful of other companies were involved, such as Pentagram (Ephman's a big fan of them) that did the signage.

Only part of the the park is open... Ephman guesses they couldn't wait.  The rest will be completed by next year.  The park basically runs from Gansvoort Street up to 34th Street.  Ephman snuck up on the tracks before any work was started and had a good look around.  Dangerous?  Probably, but that's just the kind of guy he is.  Plants overtook the railway line, trees were growing, and weeds were all over the place.  They cleaned it all out, put in really nicely designed benched, and built in wood lounge chairs that you can crash out and check out the sunset.  This place is world class... check it out!
