Michael Franti & Spearhead NYC Review @ Terminal 5

Wow is all that can be said! Double Wow!
loving michael franti and spearhead at terminal 5 in nyc

This show started with a nice surprise.  East Kingston Jamaica reggae star Cherine Anderson came out and as she said "dropped some tracks".  At first Ephman was like "aw great" (notice the sarcasm), but after about 2 seconds of hearing her it was like "aw great" (notice the excitement).

Then like the beginning of a boxing match, with the lights down lllloooowwww, and the music building POW came out Michael Franti, barefoot and all!  And the crowd went nuts.  It was right from this point that he knew that Michael would be able to control this crowd.  When Michael said jump, they jumped.

His meld of reggae, jazz, hip hop, jam band kind of stuff, kept this totally hopping.  Terminal 5 was totally packed, yet the vibrations kept the crowd dancing the whole time.  Which makes always for an extra good time.

OK OK OK, we know, "Ephman", what songs did he play?  Well if you follow this blog you'll know that he has too much fun to sit there and write the names down.  One of the reasons he shoots a bit of video, to give you the feel.  But he'll search in a little bit for a setlist as he saw a bunch of tapers in the back.

Very rarely does Ephman post 2 videos.  But if you watch the video for Everybody Ona Move, you'll see a nice Michael Jackson tribute.  Ephman's just going to leave it at there.

Some super funny and touching things happened.  Michael's son Cappy was in the audience, and came out on stage to tap the tambourine.  He pulled an "older" couple out of the audience.  They were given a few guitars, and out belted Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit.  But as it turned out they only lip synced it with their guitars.  But definately the finest moment was when this 6 year old little girl was pulled up from the audience and danced around and sang parts of Say Hey.  And all through the show it was about community spirit, and the celebration of being alive!

Micheal totally walks the barefoot walk, because after the concert he was all about meeting the fans, hugging the fans, taking pictures with the fans, and loving the fans.  Michael Franti & Spearhead gets a big thumbs up from Ephman.

It was me!

Yes. I was the one playing guitar! "Older?" Am I really "older?" Boo----hoooo. It was a blast, older or not. Cheers!

Oh come on....

Ephman said "older", not OLD!  :)  you are totally not OLD!  Not the way you and yoru friend were jumping around.

This was my 9th or 10th

This was my 9th or 10th Spearhead show and it was the best of all....! Michael is still recovering from his emergency appendectomy at the end of July, but he was very energetic and as charming as always. The band gave all, as usual. See Michael Franti & Spearhead when they come to your town, it's an unforgettable exspearience!
