So Nick Lowe showed up again to NYC without a band. Eventhough he's just on a quick jaunt from across the pond. Seeing him with only a guitar AGAIN is understandibly a bit boring. It's alright Nick is worth seeing any way you can though. Oh yeah, and the crowd there were all so old acting, NOBODY sang anything. The crowd just sat there and looked at the stage. Clapped a little, when the song was over. Then repeated the process.
Nick played some of Ephman's favorites. "I Trained Her To Love Me", "Rome Wasn't Built In A Day", and "Cuel To Be Kind" (which you can watch in this posting. The problem is that these songs are so nicely arrange that without a band they kind of seem to be lacking a bit. Nick, you don't need to "rock out", but come on put a little more life into things.
Maybe it was the crowd wearing on him. But Nick just kind of stood there. A few times he sort of walked a step away from the stage, but for the most part he stood there like a robot. Ephman's seen Nick 2 other times. And at those events there just seemed to be a lot more energy in the room, and Nick responded well to that. This time with the dead crowd, he might as well have been dead.
Ephman's being hard on Nick. Why? Beacause he is so great to see in concert when he's on the ball. Possibly because it's not really a tour. Just a few shows. But it's kind of crazy to talk to the audience about how great the audience was the night before in some small town in Pennsylvania. The crowd deserved it. But Nick come on...
