Ephman's love of F1 goes back a long long long time. Back to the days of legend Gilles Villeneuve. He went from racing snowmobiles into the cockpit of a beautiful read Ferrari. He never won a championship because of a life ending crash. However, he's rated as the best driver that never won it all. And that underdog influence has stuck with all the drivers and teams that have gotten Ephman's support.
Sauber was just one of those back of the pack teams with great potential. And BMW saw that. They bought the team to make it BMWSauber. Since former world champion Jacques Villeneuve (Gille's son) was driving for the team Ephman kept his support. Fast forward a few years, and they had a GREAT '08 season. At times they were leading the constructors championship, and Kubica was leading points driver. '09 season and they are the WORST. So bad that they actually QUIT F1. Yes the mighty German motorwerks BMW are a group of QUITTERS.
But that serves Ephman just fine. Why? Because as loyal as Ephman is, he won't support quitters. Enter BrawnGP. Honda quits F1 last year (and for fair reasons). Ross Brawn loses his job in the process. The former Ferrari Technical Director and resident racing genuis says "I'm going to buy my former team, and win a championship". Ok fine he's not quoted as saying that. BUT that's what he's in the process of doing.
Enter BrawnGP. So far the greatest underdog F1 story in history... so far. Four weeks before the season begins, and this team still doesn't really exist. The team has no big sponsor, their website looks like it was put together in 1998, and the hat Ephman bought has iron on stencils for the graphics.
Litterally without any meaningful testing they have to sport a team for the first race of the season in Australia. Litterally without any meaningful testing they have to sport a team for the first race of the season in Australia. Not only did Jeson Button (who's career was going nowhere but out of F1) win that race. They finished one and two. And BrawnGP with Jenson Button driving go on to dominate the first 6 races with 5 wins.
Now we're mid way though the season, and some of the older stronger teams are catching up. BrawnGP is still way ahead in the points. But for the past few races things are starting to look tough on them. Just the way Ephman likes it from his F1 teams. Fight for the win, make it exciting, and love your fans.
