How To Change The World Your Own Way

Obviously it's been a horrible time in Haiti after the earthquake.  So Ephman's been inspired to write this blog post about the things you can do to change the world.

So many people in this world think that only people like Mahatma Gandhi, Mother Teresa, John F. Kennedy, Caesar, Genghis Khan, Louis XIV, the person that invented the wheel, Albert Einstein, Albert Schweitzer, Tim Berners-Lee, Ephman, Mao, George Washington, Mary Currie, Jane Austen, Harriet Beecher Stowe, Queen Victoria, Coco Chanel, Eleanor Roosevelt, Indira Gandhi, okay fine, you get the point.  The list goes on and on and on.  But if you were to ask any of those people if they thought they were special. Most likely they'd say that they're just a regular person.  Regular like you and Ephman.  Oh wait Ephman made that list, how'd that happen?

But the reality is that you don't need to be a scientist, humanitarian, politician, or be any other stereotypical "profession" to change the world.  You just need to be yourself, and do it in your own way.

There are 365 things a year that you can do, to change this world for the better.  You wake up in the morning and you should do it with a smile.  Changing the world is as simple as putting a smile on somebody's face, unexpectedly.  It's as simple as helping somebody cross the street.  It's as simple as going online and sending five bucks to help the victims of any tragedy.

People spend the majority of their lives doing things for themselves.  And that's absolutely and totally fine.  But doing something for yourself can be way more enjoyable, if that means you're doing it for somebody else as well.  You see, changing the world for the better isn't about the big things you do.  It's about the tons and tons of little things you do throughout your life to help.

There is a pretty good chance that if you're reading this blog.  You've been lucky enough to be able to afford a computer, high speed Internet, a roof over your head, food in your fridge, and just the pleasures of a comfortable life.  See Ephman traveled all over the world, whether it's from Peru to Vietnam, he's seen the abject poverty.  And in a way his going there, has helped.  It's helped put money into their economy.  It's helped shown people in communist countries, that freedom is possible.

So what can you do to change the world?  Well first off, you kind of need to figure out what you want to change.  In this world.  See for Ephman he wants to put a smile on somebody's face every day, make somebody feel good about themselves, and help find a cure for that pesky thing we call cancer.  So, what he does is he cracks jokes, complements strangers about things, and donates all advertising money from his blog to help fight melanoma skin cancer.  Believe it or not, complementing strangers about what they're wearing, can make somebody feel so good about themselves.

Ephman lives in this amazingly densely populated city.  And every once in a while.  There's always somebody that can use a helping hand.  Every town, city, village or hamlet has got a soup kitchen, a place to donate clothes, or simply a person down on their luck.  Pay it forward, Ephman promises.  The karma will come back and hit you right back in the heart.  But all these tiny little actions you take throughout the day for somebody else, believe it or not adds up to be a pretty hefty total by the end of a lifetime.  So after you read this, just do something, anything, for somebody else.

  1. Give away some of your blood.  It's not like you need all of it.  Give away a pint or two? That could save a life, and who knows what the person will do?  Maybe cure cancer :)
  2. Donate some books.  Kids books especially.  See Ephman will tell you why?  This child gets your book and finds out it was donated.  Two things happen.  The joy of giving, and the joy of teaching about the joy of giving.
  3. If you travel to a poor country... bring an tiny bit of extra clothes with you.  Clothes you wan to donate.  Go to a church, mosque, temple, or synagogue, and drop it off.  Poor people could use clothes.
  4. Donate your old computers.  Most likely you're just going to sell it for a couple hundred lousy buck anyways.  And don't you think that some child would really apprecaite it?  Hey they might just program something on it that's revolutionary.
  5. Thing you can do... and really you're doing nothing at all.  And still you in a way helping to make this place a better place to live.  Read this article.

These are just little things that Ephman does.  You can totally figure out a few for yourself.  Just remember every act of kindness helps change the world :)
