NYRR NY Mini 10K

In 1972 and only 78 women ran this event.  It was a time that women really didn't run road races like this.  The Boston Marathon was still an all male event.  Let's fast forward 38 years and add another 4213 more runners and this event is a premier 10K professional road race.  Rose Kosgei won it in 32:43, being the first Kenyan to win this event.  The top American finished in second was Serena Burla at 33:04, and in third was American Hirut Mandefro coming in 33:14.  American Deena Kastor ran a 43:46, but ran injured because she loves this event so much!  Infact she ran the race with NYRRC CEO Mary Wittenberg.  The energy you get from watching all 4200 women start this thing is amazing.  Their faces at the finish line just shows sheer agony of having to kick-ass.
